Tips and Tricks:
English Method of stitching using varigated thread: You will do one stitch at a time to have the entire stitch be that one color. This method will emphasize the tonality of color where it will gradually switch from one color to the next. Some examples of stitches that you may want to do this with are any variation of Cross Stitch, Smyrna Cross, and Rice Stitch.
Danish Method of stitching using varigated thread: You will stitch a portion of the stitch in one direction and then complete the stitch going the opposite direction. In this way the under stitch may have a different color than the top stitch.
For bigger areas of stitching, you can either work back and forth (vertically or horizontally) or cut strands of floss starting at the same point in one color for each row or column of stitching to ensure your colors are matched throughout. If you do cut your strands the floss matching will be close but not 100%.
Variegated floss works really well for patterns that have single lines of stitching, such as for text or borders.
Keep your paper labels handy to easily identify the color later. Slip the label back onto the skein if you removed them, or tie it onto one end of the skein.
